Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities (EPEC)

KEYS is proud to be home to the first Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities (EPEC) hub in Western Australia.

EPEC is a proven method of prevention and early intervention that helps children and families get the very best start in life. EPEC parenting courses are led by local parent facilitators who have completed accredited EPEC training and receive ongoing training, supervision and support from parenting specialists based in a local EPEC Hub. Each EPEC Hub provides the expertise, organisation, ethos and oversight to ensure safe, high quality, and effective practice.

EPEC aims to improve child development and outcomes, parenting, family resilience and social capital. The Being a Parent course combines the latest developmental science and theory with well-evidenced parenting strategies and methods involving:

         Attachment and parent-child relationships.

Understanding and managing children’s feelings and parents’ emotional regulation.

         Parenting roles, expectations and culture.

Parent listening, communication, play and interaction skills.

Positive behaviour management and discipline strategies.

         Managing parent and family stress.

Parent Facilitators have begun leading 'Being A Parent' courses in Kwinana.
